Grand Canyon River Trip
Spring 2001

Photos from a private river trip down the Grand Canyon. The trip was 23 days long. It launched on March 31, 2001 at Lee's Ferry and ended at Pierce Ferry on Lake Mead April 22, 2001. The trip consisted of four oar boats and 10 people. Allan Duncan, who owns his own rafting equipment, was one of the boatmen. It was a no alcohol, no drug trip and almost everything went rather smoothly. I put these pictures on my commercial web site just to share the experience with friends, family and anybody else who might be interested. This page is a nice reminder of a really great trip.

Rick going right of the hole at upset rapid.

Lots of beautiful rapids.

The blue green waters of Havasu Creek.

Cactus flowers in bloom. It was a wet spring this year, and the canyon was in bloom.

A view from the Nankoweep grainery ruin.

Hanging out.

Taking refuge from a rain storm on the second to the last day of the trip.

The motley 10 before launching at Lee's Ferry.

The hole at 209. Mark and Dave went swimming here after their 18' cataraft went into the hole sideways, and they fell out of their boat. The boat stayed upright.  Mark swam to shore, climbed up, and took this picture of Allan going river left of the hole. Mark had a waterproof camera.

Allan Duncan and Jerry both rowing to stay as far as possible away from the rock at Bedrock Rapid. We missed the Rock by 40 to 60 feet.
